In partnership with Future Earth, we're pleased to release the following call.


We recognize the need to deepencollaboration and dialog between artists and scientists. Artists interested incollaborating with a global gathering of scientists, activists and policymakers are invited to explore new ways of applying the power of public art toachieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. 

One R10,000 public arts grant will be on up for grabs for artists participating in the event. 


The Seedbeds of Transformationconference will provide a collaborative space for people with diverseperspectives to explore transformations and the Sustainable Development Goalsin Africa. The 3-day gathering will draw on a wide range of knowledge to identifyappropriate pathways for achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goalsin Africa. Designed around the concept of an innovation marketplace, thisthree-day conference will bring together innovators from research, government,industry, NGOs, the media and more.

90% of life is simply aboutshowing up. All we ask is that you be present, authentic and creative. Thebrief is simple:

-      Listen: Listen in on the presentations and join multi-stakeholder workshops

-      Connect: Connect with actors from a diverse set of disciplines and contexts overthe three days

-      Create: Draw on this experience to develop a creative proposal in real timeover course of the three-day event

-      Share:  Share your proposal for aPUBLIC ARTWORK with a live audience at the event and on social media platforms.The grant will be awarded based on a public vote on the 3rd day ofthe event in order to support one artist bring their concept to life.


In addition to the chance to bid for the grand prize of R10,000, all participating artists will receive:

-       Full conference passes valued at R2000

-       Access to the pop-up studio space

-       Coverage of their concepts on socialmedia

-       Free teas, coffees and lunches for theduration of the event

-       Localtravel support from around Port Elizabeth is available on request


Qualityover quantity: We’re in search of a small group of artists of all ages anddisciplines who can commit to participating for the full duration of the event.
